Esa Saarinen

Esa Saarinen is professor, philosopher and charismatic speaker whose thoughts have inspired many Finnish enterprises and business leaders to break barriers and to create something new. Saarinen’s lectures, many times spectacular in nature, have been very famous in universities and everywhere else since 1980s.

Saarinen is philosopher of conventionality, professor of applied philosophy at Aalto University and regular guy from Hyvinkää who lives in Helsinki Downtown, loves his family and wants to help people succeed in life by the condition of dreams.

The themes of his spectacular lectures have been for example succeeding in work life, philosophy of leadership, spiritual dimensions of life and relationship issues.

Saarinen calls himself as “philosopher of conventionality”. He has defined that the main questions in his thinking are good life and the possibility of human bloom. In the corporate world, Saarinen has for example consulted for Nokia and Marimekko and has been teaching philosophy to leaders. Saarinen is also a board member in Ensto which is founded by Ensio Miettinen.

Hans Rosling is a professor of International Health at Karolinska Institutet, the medical university in Stockholm, Sweden. He co-founded Gapminder Foundation with his son and daughter-in-law. Gapminder promotes a fact based world view by converting the international statistics into moving, interactive, understandable and enjoyable graphics. Professor Rosling is lively speaker and he uses impressive graphics in his presentations. It’s no wonder that his presentations are some of the most watched on TED.com. This was first done by developing the Trendalyzer software that Google acquired in 2007. Hans Rosling has been given many awards and honors. In 2009, he was listed as one of 100 leading global thinkers by Foreign Policy Magazine and in 2011 as one of 100 most creative people in business by the Fast Company Magazine. In 2008, he was awarded as the Speaker of the Year from the Swedish Event Academy. In 2010, he received Illis Quorum which is the Highest Award conferred by the Government of Sweden.  In 2010, he also got World Design Award in Design and was awarded The Gannon Award for the Continued Pursuit of Human Advancement.

The main speaker of the 2012 Nordic Business Forum will be the founder of Virgin Group, a man who received the honour of Knight Bachelor for his services to entrepreneurship by Queen Elizabeth in 2000 – Richard Branson! His business career started when he was only 16 when he began publishing a magazine called Student. Branson’s first mega success was the record label Virgin Records. He launched the company because Mike Oldfield couldn’t find anyone to publish his debut album. The name “Virgin” was born because Branson and his business partners were all new at business in those early days.

Branson formed Virgin Atlantic Airways in 1984. Nowadays Virgin Group, which is founded by Richard Branson, consists of more than 400 companies around the world and it includes business areas from soft drinks to space traveling. Virgin Group’s revenue is over 21.3 billion USD and it has 50 000 employees all around the globe. Branson is also well-known for his humanitarian initiatives and especially through the last years for his efforts on climate change. He was listed as no. 8 in the listing of the world’s top 50 business thinkers by The Thinkers 50 in 2009. Branson was also ranked in Time Magazine’s “Top 100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2007. This is the first time when Sir Richard comes to the stage in Finland, and it happens in Nordic Business Forum!

BUSINESS LUNCH: a 1½ hour business lunch which is designed to offer great possibilities for proper networking.

SYY At the seminar there will be a 1.5h lunchbreak. During this longer break a Business lunch will take place in Paviljonki. It has been carefully designed for networking, and is free for all seminar participants.

Many organizations that attend the seminar with a bigger group have a table or multiple tables reserved in their name at the Business lunch. These tables accommodate approximately 10 people.

Every seminar participant has a map of the reserved tables in their seminar handout. The map can also be found as a poster on-site. This way everyone has a chance to seek the table that interests them the most and network during the lunch. The timeframe has been organized so that there is enough time for plenty of discussion and moving around the tables.
